The Gold Star Reverb Pedal’s design was inspired by Phil Spector’s famous gold star studio. Creating a pedal that would recreate the feel and sound of the studio, but in a more portable and easy to use design. The Keeley pedal captures the famous “wall of sound” formula that was created at the gold star studio, as well as incorporating tape-machine responses for a realistic reverb. Four controls offer adjustments to the pedals effect, with decay, depth and vinyl shaping the reverb to suit your sound, and a mix to set the output of the effect.
The pedal features three different reverbs to choose from, each offering incredible studio themed sounds. The compressed mode adds “room compression” to the reverb, with the trials being compressed when played hard. This is to mimic the type of compression that would happen in the gold star studio when the room was full of sound. The depth control would act as the effects threshold, whilst the vinyl controls the compression ratio. This mode is perfect for using on vocals to create a powerful reverb that’s clean and distinctive, or plug in a blues guitar unique note distinctions with a spacious reverb in-between notes.
The distorted mode provides a reverb that is thick and throaty. With powerful jarring and boldness on the trails, the distortion becomes an excellent choice when playing heavy music. The pedals vinyl control becomes the distortion control for creating heavier reverb tones, and the depth control is used to set the pre-delay time.
The pedals flanged mode offers two options to choose from, the normal flanged reverb or a sun-drenched reverb. The vinyl knob acts as the controller for selecting either of the two options, with a left dial to produce the flange reverb and a right dial for the sun-drenched reverb. The sun-drench option offers a random pitched vibrato that adds to the pedal “wall of sound”.
