Boz Big Clipper Overview
Boz Big Clipper is a clipping plug-in that combines multiple features including a limiter and unique frequency sensitivity control giving you ultimate control over your peaks when mixing. When subtly done, clipping can add a lot of clarity to your mix and make instruments sound natural, especially when you start adding effects like reverb and compression. Boz capitalise on this by combining a clipper with a limiter and lets you blend and combine them in a unique way that goes beyond the normal functionalities of a clipper/limiter. It comes with a selection of presets so you can get a quick dynamic fix, in case you're working to a deadline, and also features a save function so you can make your own or overwrite the preloaded ones for your own purposes.
Big Clipper's constellation of controls means you can change parameters such as intensity and shape of clipping, along with four blend modes that enable you to choose how the limiting and clipping is combined to enter a whole new world of dynamic processing. Not only that, but you're also able to audition the blend modes at any time without the need for re-patching, so you'll be able to find the ideal sound without making big irreversible changes that ruin your workflow.

With Big Clipper, Boz puts you in the driver's seat offering up a comprehensive set of controls so you can edit every aspect of the dynamics processing that occurs. The handy A/B bank control lets you quickly compare different setups in the plug-in without deleting any current settings. 'Push' controls your input gain and 'Pull' adjusts the threshold of the clipping for either smooth or edgy clipping effects giving you a variety of options no matter what track you're working on. Handy attack and release controls for the limiter also feature so you can tame those peaks or venture into the unknown and experiment with radical settings.
Clipper or limiter?
Boz labs give you both a clipper and limiter in one interface, and they've made it easy for you to decide which one you want more of with a complete set of 4 blending options with a slider for variable control. The blend options provide a lot of versatility in the positioning of processing with the option to limit in the low band and clip in the high (L X C) for fuzz type effects, limit in the high and clip in the low (C X L) to add a bit more of a transparent distortion, or as its namesake suggests Blend lets you merge between the full band limiter and the full band clipper which is great for dialling in your distortion in context and deciding how much you what to hear, and finally Series runs the limiter and clipper in series to provide just a touch of grit.
Frequency Sensitivity
At first glance it may seem like Big Clipper features a simple EQ section at the bottom of the interface however it is in actual fact a band-pass filter that gives you the power to change how the clipper reacts to certain frequency bands. If you're hearing some distortion artefacts that don't blend well in your mix then with the frequency sensitivity section you're able to hunt out where that distortion sits and remove it or, you can use it for the reverse of this and give a boost in certain frequency areas to give your tracks a bit more character. It is a very powerful tool that can be useful to hone in on specific aspects of your sound or you can use it as a sound design tool and come up with some crazy results that sound like nothing else you've ever heard.
