Fender’s Stratocaster has been a defining electric guitar since 1954. Its contoured double-cutaway body gives comfortable access across the neck, while the familiar pickup layout, five-way selector and vibrato bridge offer a broad palette of sounds and expressive pitch movement. SSS versions deliver classic single-coil clarity; HSS models add a bridge humbucker for thicker drive tones.
For a modern feel, Player II is the starting point, the recently revamped American Professional is the step up, and American Ultra II sits at the top of the range. The Standard Stratocaster offers another route into the classic design.
For vintage-inspired character, Vintera III is the entry point, American Professional Classic steps up with vintage-style features and modern playability, and American Vintage II focuses on period-authentic details. The wider range also includes Made in Japan, American Performer, Artist, Ultra Luxe, Special Run and Custom Shop models.
Stratocaster players include Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore, Nile Rodgers and Yngwie Malmsteen. Their signature models show how the platform can be adapted for different sounds and approaches, from funk and blues to classic rock and high-gain playing.
The Stratocaster’s contoured body and straightforward controls make it approachable for new players. Fender offers models at different price points, so compare the neck shape, pickup layout and features to find one that suits your budget.
SSS Stratocasters have three single-coil pickups for clear, bright tones. HSS models replace the bridge single coil with a humbucker for a thicker, higher-output sound.
Its versatile pickup positions suit styles including blues, funk, pop and rock. Different models and pickup configurations can also suit heavier sounds.
A Stratocaster typically has a contoured double-cutaway body, three pickups and a vibrato bridge. A Telecaster usually has a single-cutaway body, two pickups and a fixed bridge.
