Three sound engines for versatile tone creation

The Montage M6 combines three engines in one instrument. The AN-X engine recreates warm, vintage analogue synthesis with modulation options like pulse width, self-sync and drift settings for authentic behaviour. FM-X provides an 8-operator FM engine for crisp, evolving or aggressive tones, continuing Yamaha’s FM legacy. AWM2 delivers detailed sample-based realism, offering up to 128 elements per part for lifelike instruments such as piano, strings, or drums. Together, these engines cover everything from classic synth leads to orchestral textures and experimental soundscapes.

Motion Control for expressive sound shaping

The Motion Control system adds new ways to interact with sounds. Motion Sequences can automate changes to synth and effect parameters, syncing to tempo for evolving textures. The Super Knob allows multiple modulations to be controlled with a single gesture, while the Envelope Follower lets audio inputs modulate other sounds. These tools make it easy to create dynamic, expressive performances that respond to your playing in real time.

Performance features built for live and studio use

The Montage M6 provides 61 responsive keys with aftertouch for expressive playability. New performance controls include a ribbon controller, portamento knobs, and dedicated buttons for keyboard, part and scene control, giving direct access during live sets. Enhanced LED feedback and colour-coded buttons make navigation easy on stage. With up to 16 parts per performance, players can set up complex layers, splits, and scene changes for flexible live setups.

Integrated workflow with DAWs and recording

For studio use, the built-in USB audio/MIDI interface supports 32 outputs and 6 inputs, reducing the need for extra gear. Performances can be searched quickly with category filters, and the Expanded Softsynth Plugin lets you replicate the Montage M in your DAW for composing away from the keyboard. Faster navigation with a 7” colour touchscreen, six display knobs, and improved UI ensures quick editing. This combination of features makes the Montage M6 equally effective on stage and in the studio.
